[ Other - Family & Relationships ] Open Question : Should I ask for an allowance?

I’m 17, and a senior in high school. Yes, I know it sounds bad, but give me a chance to explain.
I’m currently quite busy with school (I’ve actually been told by quite a few of my AP teachers that I personally will have a lighter workload when I get into college). This is just one reason why I can’t get a job right now; I’m afraid of having my grades fall. That isn’t my only reason, but I won’t get into it right now. There’s just no way around it; I cannot get a regular job right now. I plan on it when I finally can.
In the meantime, though, I would like a little bit of cash to spend. I do help out my mom whenever I can, and I don’t act like jackass. I don’t feel like I’m really “entitled” or anything, but a few bucks would be nice. As is, I have no cash of any kind. For an allowance, I am willing to do some actual work for her. Should I ask? If so, how should I ask?
